Seated at home,
Where she yearned to be,
Alone, silenced,
Eaten by the quiet.

Write.

Think of yesterday:
Fun. Loud. Friends.
Buses. Pizza. Mini-put.

Think of now:
Early. Quiet. Awake.
Pencil. Paper. Thoughts. Magazine.

Think of the future:
Human equality. Justice for all.
Peace. Un-starved. Unharmed.
Freedom.

Think of the past:
Pain. Suffering. Inequality.
Strife. Famine. Violence.
Unjust.

Think of now:
It starts here.

Author's Comments

I was talking to my dad the other day and he said that the gap between the rich and the poor is getting wider and wider. He put it on a scale: we live in the middle class, not overly rich and yet our lifestyle is in the top four percent of the world. That means that ninety-six percent of about six billion live closer to the grips of starvation, disease and death; even more so, some live a the life of misery. Some of the ninety-six percent of the people wake up and think about the lack of hope to improve their lives and lose themselves to the sweet throws of non-existence. This caused me to believe that something must be done about the wrongs of the world. Typing this on my laptop made me realize that if I sold it, the money from the laptop could feed a family for a week. Perhaps if I published it somewhere, I would be heard and things would change… But people have been advocating a global change in the world for decades.

I completely agree with EVERYTHING you conveyed in this poem. It made me stop, look around me, and think about how all of the other people in the world are living- it's a really good poem, and I admire a writer who has such ambition behind it! good job to you.

Why thank you. In a way, my dad inspired me to write it. The only thing that I hoped for was to get through to at least one person. Thank you, you make me feel accomplished now. :D
